Holyland Museum

In the before times (before the pandemic), I found a small museum in the hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake in Los Angeles, California. It has numerous artifacts brought back to the USA by Antonio F. Futterer, whose explorations are believed to be what the movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark” is based on.

He was determined to find the Ark of the Covenant, and discovered a lot of great historical items in the process. They are all on display, safely behind glass. It was requested that no photos be taken and I honored that preference.

You will be escorted by the owner, who will answer all of your questions and give you cool information as you peruse the cool artifacts, including antique game tables & desks, brass art pieces, glass slides of paintings, tapestries, oil lamps, and coins from Futterer’s archaeology digs.

The last room we visited had some clothing which we were encouraged to try on.

At the end of the tour, you will be brought to the auditorium. There was explanation of “Futterer’s Eye-o-graphic Bible System”, then I was given some treats.. It is a very interesting place and is especially neat that it is small and local. The tour was about 2 hours.

You must call and make an appointment. There is a small donation to enter, & there is a gift shop, which has mostly religious items. I bought the book “Adventures of the Golden Ark Explorer.” Worth it!
